April at FCAC: Plants, Parties, and Painting!
The Fountain City Art Center has a full agenda of exhibits and events
open to the public this spring! Come by the Center to see the Terra Madre
clay exhibit before it ends April 11, and view the Students' Exhibit featuring
artwork from Powell High, Powell Middle, and associated elementaries.

The "Fountain City Art Guild Annual Spring Show and Sale" will open with a reception and an awards program on Friday, April 18, 6:30-8:30PM. Our Student Exhibit will showcase the winners from the GFWC Fontinalis Club
Annual Art Competition. Central, Gresham, Halls High and Halls Middle
participated in this traditional area art contest sponsored by the Fontinalis Club members.

The Art Center is very proud to announce that Creative Structures has just become our most recent Corporate member and Sponsor! We appreciate
this show of support from Foster and Bob Slack!

Be sure to come by the Center on Saturday, April 12, noon to 4PM, for an outdoor Plant Sale to benefit the Art Center! Most of the plants will be perennials provided by  Edna Harvey and Mark Bass. If we experience heavy rain, we'll wait until April 19. We really appreciate Mark and Edna's efforts! If anyone else has plants to donate, let us know ASAP.

We have two big events coming up in May. The 3rd Annual FCAC Open Show will be on exhibit May 23-June 20. Application/Entry forms are available at the Center,  by mail, or by email. Hugh Bailey will be our show's juror and judge. Awards start at  $300. We are also taking reservations for the 4th Annual Garden Party Benefit  Luncheon and Auction which will be held May 31 at the fabulous gardens of  our hosts, Ginger and Bill Baxter. Reservations are $35 per person. Information is  available by email or come by the Center.

New classes and workshops are added almost every month. In April, we're debuting  "Acting Classes" instructed by Robert McDonald III and a workshop offered by Bob  Meadows and Gay Bryant, "Block Prints Meet Artists' Books," April 12.

FCAC Houglum Exhibit Begins New Year

Preparations are being made at the Fountain City Art Center for one of the most remarkable exhibits to date. Jon Houglum's solo exhibit, entitled "A Perspective on Life," contains no less than70 oil paintings! The exhibit will cover every square inch of our exhibiting space with some very large pieces in the mix. The public, as always, is encouraged to come to the reception Friday, January 4,6:30-8:30PM at the Center. Refreshments will be served and Dave Williams will provide the classical guitar musical entertainment.

Jon Houglum and his wife Carolyn currently reside in Franklin, North Carolina. His style is reminiscent of the old Dutch Masters for good reason. In addition to his degree in Art Education from Moorhead State in Minnesota, he studied for 4 years under a highly regarded master of "the old school," Antonias Raemaecher.  Jon's work will be on display for public viewing January 4-February 1. All exhibits are for the community's enjoyment, and admission is free.
