“Art-a-palooza!”...Not Over Yet!
As members of the Art Center, you can be proud of the tremendous support so many of you gave to this four day fundraiser, and it’s not over yet! Because we received so many wonderful items from you, we have continued the sale in the “Student Exhibit” area until it is replaced Nov. 30 by the artwork from Central High, Gresham Middle, Fountain City, Sterchi, Shannondale, and Inskip Elementaries. We also continue to offer the signed and numbered print, “Fountain City Lake Circa 1890” and the note cards with the same image. These items would make excellent Christmas gifts! When the 150 signed and numbered prints are gone, you’ll wish you had reserved one! Just how much have we made on “Art-a-palooza”? Currently, we are inching closer to $8,000! Our goal is $10,000 which we could reach with print sales. We have many businesses and individuals to thank for their gift donations. Most of these gifts were placed in the Silent Auction. Our participants were: Pardon’s Jewelers, BankEast of Fountain City, Avanti Savoia Fine Imports, Rita’s Bakery, certificates from Brenda Moulton for framing artwork, Mary Wilbourn and Debi Tuttle’s Town Framery, Steve Coker’s Fountainhead Gallery, Louis’ Restaurant, the Lost Savant, Leo’s Café, Kimberley’s Gifts and Interiors, Ye Olde Grapevine Shoppe, Knoville Soap and Candle, Pet Supplies Plus, Abbey’s Attic, Pratt’s Market, Liz Curry, Nan Scott, Mary Secrist, Sue Lane, Rick Whitehead, Bill Holbert, Sue Maniez, Peter Rose and Judy Brater-Rose, Jean Chellino, Maureen Lucas, Charlotte Dorsey, Gary Lovett, Barbara Nicodemus, Sylvia Williams, Edna Harvey, Roger Bench, Penny Berridge, and especially Toni and Kent Nicholson. Many others contributed, too numerous to name, but all are appreciated. Start saving your art items for next year! We’ll need them! Special thanks go to Linda Wise and Deena Hurst who collected all the fabulous gift donations from area businesses. We’re especially indebted to Dr. Jim Tumblin for conducting the historical tour of Fountain City and Dave Smith who drove the vehicle generously lent to us by Fountain City Presbyterian Church. Covenant Health donated our banners and posters designed by Dave Smith. The Knoxville News-Sentinel ran four ads free of charge. Barbara Nicodemus helped co-ordinate that effort using Dave’s designs for the ads. On Saturday, October 20, the Fountain City Park Players graced us with two performances of “A Day in the Park.” We look forward to their future productions under the leadership of Robert McDonald III. The Fountain City Art Guild members were kind enough to provide cakes, bread, and cookies for our “Art-a-palooza!” bake sale. Though not a guild member, Nancy Cross baked 4 gorgeous cakes. Last, but not least, we appreciate all of the artists who rented booth space outside the Center, the Creamery who acted as our food vendor, and Haley DeBusk’s sorority sisters who helped with the children’s art activities. Next year, we’re adding an open competition to choose the official “Art-a-palooza!” signed and numbered print. If you have any suggestions for other features, we’d love to hear from you.
