There are so many new activities and events at the Art Center, it is a challenge to keep up with all of them.  But, this is a good challenge.  In just a little over four years the Ftn City Art Center has become one of the most recognized venues in east Tennessee for artists and students alike.  As the FCAC has grown, so has it's website. Feel free to send suggestions (and articles) to our webmaster.

This is a 'can not miss' annual event.  If you have never attended you don't know what your missing.

FCAC Garden Party

The FCAC Garden Party Luncheon Benefit will be held this year on Saturday, May 31 in the gardens of Ginger and Bill Baxter at 11AM. We are looking for hostesses/ hosts who would like to decorate one or more tables and/or would like to invite friends to fill one or more tables. We have started planning early so that we will know how many guests to accommodate.

This event has been an absolute joy for the participants. We will have musical entertainment (the Akima Chorus), fabulous silent and live auction items (auctioneer, Bear Stephenson), and a cash bar.  Guests are encouraged to stroll through the incomparable gardens before the luncheon.

If you have attended before, you know about the “competition “ to come up with the most creative concept for decorating tables. This year we will be giving an award for the best table! The cost per person is $35.

The FCAC has received a donated auction piece which should probably get the spot of honor. It is so spectacular that it would be hard to place a value on it.

Bob Meadows had the idea of a hand made "book of shoes." He cut a template of an old fashioned shoe, and he and all of Mary Baumgartner's other watercolor students painted a picture inside each duplicate form on watercolor paper. Then these incredibly creative paintings were stitched together into a book, preserving the shoe shape. Bob found appropriate sayings about shoes and put one on each page facing the paintings. He also made a gorgeous box to hold this treasure. Whoever gets the shoe book will have all those original paintings, including one by Mary and one by Bob. Volunteers are the key to the success of this event. If you can help , please let us know.  The following list outlines the areas in which we need help:

(1) Setting table(s); see the enclosed instructions on what is needed. This year, Ginger suggests that hostesses might want to come to the party site the day before to drop off their boxes of tableware.

(2) Inviting guests to fill a table, acting as host/hostess. We’ll have extra invitations at the Art Center as needed.

(3) Volunteers to help oversee parking. This is crucial.

(4) We’ll need a few volunteers to oversee serving, making sure the foods accessible and that the lines are flowing smoothly.

(5) If you would like to make a donation to the auction, let us know! (We place programs at every table and several posters listing the donors - both individuals and businesses.)

If you would like to volunteer or purchase tickets, call the Art Center 357-2787.

Thank you for your help in making this event possible and supporting the future of the Art Center by your participation.

OTHER FCAC EVENTS

Outside the Art Center, May 9-10, we're having what Martha Stewart calls a "Tag Sale," an elegant way to say yard sale. We're asking everyone to donate items they no longer need, especially as this is the time for spring cleaning. We already have enough clothes so anything but clothes as long as nothing is too big for people to carry to their cars! (Edna has suggested this sale and the Board did not object. She, her sister, and I have been collectingstuff.)

Donors can bring items directly to the Center Monday, May 5 through Thursday, May 8. It would be extremely helpful if everyone would tag and price items in advance. Edna and son Mark made $300 for the Art Center with the plant sale, and Edna plans to bring more plants for this sale, too!
